Economist Hernando de Soto will serve as President of the Council of Ministers (Prime Minister) under President Jose Maria Balcazar's government, the Presidency of the Republic announced.

"His incorporation strengthens the institutional course of the transitional government and supports, among other priorities, the guarantee of clean and transparent elections," the Presidential Office said in a statement on Sunday evening.

Likewise, it specified that President Balcazar held a working meeting to define the first actions within the constitutional framework and the powers granted by the Congress of the Republic to his transitional administration.

"As part of future symbolic actions, a visit is planned to Indigenous leaders in the United States and Canada, with the aim of building bridges and promoting the unity of the 'condor and the eagle,' as well as exchanging experiences on how emerging societies can benefit when the economy and digital technology effectively reach all people," the statement said.

Last Saturday, President Balcazar received De Soto at the Government Palace.

They discussed the functions and scope of the President of the Council of Ministers (Prime Minister), with the aim of positioning Peru in global markets and international diplomacy.
