A team of specialists from the
Health Ministry's (Minsa) General Directorate for Disaster Risk Management and National Health Defense (Digerd) is conducting ongoing monitoring of health facilities in Arequipa, Ica, and Piura regions—the areas hardest hit by the heavy rains affecting several parts of Peru.
According to the assessment, in Arequipa 38 health facilities reported damage that did not affect operations and continue providing care to the population.
The Digerd technical team will continue the assessment process of several health facilities to complete the corresponding analysis following the recorded weather events.
Minsa reported the deployment of response teams to the Los Jazmines sector in Cayma district and to the Chullo sector in Yanahuara district, along with the mobilization of regional health brigades and a Clinibus staffed with medical personnel.
These teams provided care to those affected, thereby strengthening health services for residents in these areas.
In Piura, 46 health facilities reported damage due to heavy rains, prompting the Health Emergencies and Disasters Monitoring Unit of the Piura Regional Health Directorate (Diresa Piura) to conduct continuous monitoring in order to promptly identify needs that could affect service continuity.
Digerd maintains ongoing coordination with the region to provide support if necessary.
In Ica, following a rise and overflow of the Las Trancas River in Nasca province, flooding affected the Las Trancas I-2 Health Post, prompting the deployment of a brigade to carry out the corresponding damage assessment.

Lastly, Minsa mentioned that it has more than 4,000 brigade members nationwide to provide emergency response, conduct damage assessments, analyze needs, and deliver immediate assistance in affected areas, in coordination with regional health authorities.
In this regard, the official reported that, following the mudslides recorded in Yanahuara district, personnel from the Mobile Emergency Care System (SAMU) and health response brigades from Arequipa Regional Health Directorate provided 115 medical services to residents of neighborhoods near La Concordia Bridge.
During the operation, door-to-door home visits were carried out to assess residents' health conditions, identify risk factors associated with the mudslides, provide timely care, and distribute medications along with preventive guidance to avert subsequent complications.
