Peru: Health Ministry issues statement following WHO's COVID-19 emergency lifting

Given the lifting of the COVID-19 international emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Peruvian Ministry of Health (Minsa) reports the following:

The WHO recommended that member countries follow the 2023-2025 COVID-19 Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan, which was designed to guide countries in the transition to long-term management of this disease.

Within this framework, Minsa will guarantee the transition to long-term management of COVID-19, following the recommendations by the WHO.

Therefore, it will maintain and expand the capacities installed at healthcare services (facilities) during the pandemic, in addition to updating the regulations issued in accordance with the current scenario.

In this new scenario, the Health Ministry maintains the recommendation to complete the vaccination scheme against COVID-19 and continue adopting preventive measures, such as hand washing, room ventilation, and mask wearing if a person has symptoms.

Lastly, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reiterates its commitment to continue strengthening services, equipment, capacities, among others, to face next pandemics in order to protect the population's health.
