The
Government of Peru and the
Federal Republic of Germany have signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement to grant our country 34.2 million euros (about US$38.7 million) for the execution of eight projects related to governability; sustainable urban development and environmental policy; as well as protection and sustainable use of natural resources.
In his remarks, the Peruvian minister stressed that the signing of this agreement proves the solid bonds uniting both nations and of permanent bilateral cooperation.
The government official said the implementation of projects contained in the agreement will complement the South American country's efforts to achieve a post-pandemic economic recovery which is sustainable, under a social approach, and respects the environment.
In this sense, the Cabinet member explained that this will allow —at the multisectoral level— water resources management along the Mantaro River basin; promoting environment-friendly public services; boosting a circular economy; supporting an implementation of the National Urban Transportation Policy; promoting a comprehensive and evidence-based public administration —all of which is in line with the
United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
"The relevant resources allocated by Germany will contribute to the efforts made to attend to certain priority areas for Peru, in line with the axes of President Castillo's Government Policy," he stressed.
Moreover,
Minister Maurtua highlighted Germany's spirit of solidarity with Peru to face the COVID-19 pandemic and thanked the envoy for the donations of diagnostic tests, mechanical ventilators, hydro-ambulances, PPE, among other medical supplies, as well as the deployment of medical expert missions.
"I would like to conclude by expressing our special gratitude to the Federal Republic of Germany over this significant international cooperation effort, which will enable us to continue moving forward towards the post-pandemic recovery and the achievement of our sustainable development," he underlined.
The resources committed by the German Government —amounting to 34.2 million euros— are non-refundable and will be managed by the
German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) in coordination with the Peruvian entities expected to benefit from these projects.
This valuable and generous German contribution denotes the high level of relations and friendship that the Governments and peoples of both countries maintain so as to continue working in a coordinated manner in favor of economic, social, and environmental recovery, with a view to fulfilling the
Sustainable Development Goals.
