Peru, France blend two cities in one cocktail

00:00 | Pisco (Ica region), Dec. 18.

Peru and France have launched "PisCognac Sour," a creation that combines two of the most representative spirits in the world: pisco and cognac, Peru's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) has reported.

The new drink seals twinning ties between the cities of Pisco (Peru) and Cognac (France) to promote the exchange of cultures and tourism, as well as the exchange of information for the promotion and trade of both distilled liquors.

This link materialized in an official activity held in the City of Pisco.

The event saw the participation of Peru's Economic Councilor at Paris-based Trade Office (OCEX Paris) Aldo Parodi, Cognac Mayor Miguel Gourinchas, and Pisco Mayor Tomas Andia.

"We are proud of twinning Pisco and Cognac, whose origins coincide with a spirit distilled from high-quality grapes with its own personality in each case," Parodi pointed out.

For his part, the Cognac mayor said the mix of both drinks is the first sign that unity is underway, although he expects human and cultural exchange to be next in line.

"From now on, the name of Pisco will be found at every entry of Cognac City as one of our ten sister cities," he announced.

As is known, Peru's flagship product pisco is a brandy type of drink made out of grapes.

Peruvian pisco exports reached US$4 million in the first half of 2018, an 8.2% increase compared to the same period in 2017 (US$3.7 million).

Pisco varieties

One of them is Puro, which is special due to its fine distillation and single-grape origin.

Another one is Mosto Verde —made from the distillation of fresh musts that are not fully fermented.

Also, among the options, there is Acholado —obtained from the blend of different grape or pisco varieties.

Finally, there is Aromatico. This kind of pisco smells like flowers and fruits, featuring an aromatic flavor.
