Ukraine recognizes denomination of origin for pisco in favor of Peru

00:03 | Lima, Dec. 6.

The Ukrainian Government has recognized denomination of origin for pisco in favor of Peru, thus completing a process begun by the Peruvian Embassy in Poland, concurrently accredited to Ukraine, Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed.

The denomination of origin was recognized by a resolution of Ukraine's Ministry of Economic Development and Trade dated October 26, 2018.

The process was initiated by the Peruvian Embassy in Poland, concurrently accredited to Ukraine, with the participation of the Economic and Trade Attaché Office in such country and the Honorary Consulate based in Kiev, plus the support of the Inca country's Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The procedure was conducted in defense of Peru's legitimate rights, acting on behalf of the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi).

The regulation was issued after completing all formal steps, including an expert opinion by Ukrainian Intellectual Property Institute's Patent Office.

The resolution states that the Peruvian request has been fully substantiated and —according to the law to protect the denomination of origin for goods— establishes the registration of the denomination of origin for pisco and the right to use it in favor of the Republic of Peru.

Deputy Economic Development and Trade Minister of Ukraine Mikhail Titarchuk handed over the registration certificate to the Peruvian Ambassador to Poland, concurrently accredited to Ukraine, Alberto Salas.

The delivery took place at a special ceremony in Kiev.

Salas was joined by Peru's Honorary Consul in Kiev Igor Balenko, as well as the Economic and Trade Attaché in Ukraine Juan Olivas.
