During the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), Director General for Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Jorge Felix Rubio, presented Peru's vision for accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. This would be achieved through greater coordination between the energy transition, sustainable industrialization, and regional cooperation.

Representing Peru's presidency of ECLAC, he outlined the main priorities agreed upon by Latin America and the Caribbean to foster more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development.

In this context, the Peruvian representative participated in the side event on the industrialization-energy nexus organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

The official underscored that a clean energy mix constitutes a strategic advantage for attracting investment, strengthening competitiveness, and generating greater added value.

In this context, the diplomat highlighted Peru's progress in regional electricity integration, international cooperation, and the sustainable use of critical minerals to boost the energy transition.

Likewise, during the panel titled "Regional Perspectives on the Implementation of the SDGs," Ambassador Rubio presented the main agreements reached at the Ninth Meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development, which was chaired by Peru.

Among them, he highlighted the need to accelerate the energy transition, strengthen innovation and infrastructure, expand access to development financing, and consolidate ECLAC's role as a key institution for regional cooperation.

As part of his work agenda, Ambassador Rubio met with ECLAC Executive Secretary Jose Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs.

During the meeting, both agreed on the importance of strengthening ECLAC's institutional capacities so that it can continue supporting the countries of the region in designing public policies and promoting regional cooperation.

This would help accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
