Health Minister Victor Zamora affirmed that Peru is the first country in Latin America that began to implement a vaccination plan to protect its population from illnesses that are not related to COVID-19.
The government official reached Las Lomas de Amauta housing association, in Ate, to resume primary health care services in said district of the city of Lima.
"We needed to increase beds and isolate people, which allowed us to save more than 100,000 compatriots," he expressed.
In
this new coexistence situation, health facilities (health centers and posts) will provide extramural care to help those who need it most.
According to the Cabinet member, primary health care never really stopped, but was not completely available. Now it is back to protect the vulnerable population.
"We will deliver health services to citizens' homes using telemedicine and electronic prescribing. The future looks provisional, but we have to set new rules of coexistence, like using face masks correctly, keeping a longer distance from others, and washing our hands with soap and water constantly," he stressed.
The minister also announced the setting up of 1,250 COVID-19 spaces within health facilities throughout the country in order to screen and monitor cases, as well as to prevent a new outbreak.
