12:21 | Urubamba (Cusco region), Oct. 4.
The forest blaze previously reported in the populated center of Yanahuara, Urubamba province (the Sacred Valley of the Incas) in Cusco region, was brought under control following strategic operations by firefighting brigades, the 9th Cusco Region Fire Department Command confirmed.
The blaze, which consumed extensive areas of vegetation and forests after breaking out on October 2, prompted firefighters from Cusco, San Sebastian, and Pucyura to carry out uninterrupted operations that halted its spread and neutralized critical hotspots threatening the area.

According to the Fire Department Command, technical and disciplined work was carried out on the front line.
"This specialized contingent of 24 firefighters, together with 13 other fire department members, carried out strenuous maneuvers to establish firebreaks, remove combustible vegetation, and directly suppress the flames, successfully containing the right flank and definitively extinguishing the flare-up on the left side, where the flames exceeded 2 meters in height," it was reported.
Nevertheless, it was confirmed that personnel remain engaged in fire suppression, monitoring, and cooling of hotspots to prevent any possible reactivation due to wind currents.
The efforts also received support from local authorities in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, private institutions such as the Vida Wasi Association, volunteers, and local residents.

Unfortunately, the charred remains of an elderly man were found in the district's Huarcaya sector.
Two other people were also reportedly injured during the firefighting efforts.
