Peru exported 3,300 containers of Hass avocado this year, from which 446 were successfully shipped for the first time to the United States, as they entered the American country without cold treatment.
According to the Peruvian Hass Avocado Producers’ Association (Prohass), Peru is expected to double those exports in the next campaigns.
The head of Prohass Jimmy Bosworth said the products were delivered from April to September; however, shipments to US started in July, the right time for Peru as the Californian and Mexican production is not in the market during those months.
Currently, Peru has 9,000 hectares planted with Hass avocado sown at different times that are not ready to be exported, but with which avocado export volumes will double this year, said AgroNegociosPeru.
AgroNegociosPeru warned producers not to exceed the area of plantations and avoid saturating the markets, as the limit will be set by the consumption of those markets.
