Peruvian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Luis Enrique Chavez Basagoitia and European Union Ambassador to Peru Gaspar Frontini on Tuesday presented the new Multiannual Indicative Programme for the 2021-2027 period. It entails a contribution of €57 million for the South American country.

These resources will contribute to the economic, sustainable, social, and environmental development of Peru in three strategic priorities: circular transition towards a green and inclusive economy and development; human development and social inclusion; as well as governance and rule of law, in accordance with the axes of the Government's General Policy.

This way, the new agreement will contribute to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals comprised in the 2030 Agenda.

During his speech, Deputy Minister Chavez Basagoitia stressed that international technical cooperation effectively contributes to national policies so as to strengthen State management under a territorial approach and intersectoral coordination, with the aim of overcoming existing structural gaps, and improving the citizens' quality of life.

"It is essential that cooperation has a direct impact on citizens —leaving no one behind— through capacity building, knowledge sharing, and technology transfer," he said.

Likewise, the diplomat stressed that the approval of this new program reflects the soundness and dynamism of the relations between Peru and the European Union.

It also proves the continuous support received for the fight against poverty and inequality, as well as its contribution to the sustainable development of our country.

"I am convinced that this cooperation framework will further strengthen and expand our historic relations, based on common principles and values such as respect for the rule of law and human rights, as well as the defense of democracy," he concluded.
