The Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) on Wednesday reported that the first phase of the COVID-19 vaccination for its frontline staff —at hospitals and healthcare centers in provinces— has been completed.

According to EsSalud, the immunized personnel affirmed that this is the most effective solution to overcome the pandemic and recommended that patients and the population in general do the same when the vaccination time comes.

Afterwards, EsSalud's Assistance Networks in different regions implemented their vaccination plans, placing priority on the medical and health care personnel working at intensive care, intermediate care, emergency, and in-patient units.

All the health professionals included in the vaccination registry —who work at health facilities within Assistance Networks in Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Ucayali, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Ica, Junin, Huanuco, Madre de Dios, among other regions— received the first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine.

For example, in La Libertad Assistance Network, 100% of the staff considered in the first phase (2,054) were immunized in four days. They include health professionals who currently work in emergency, intensive care, and in-patient units.

EsSalud's La Libertad Assistance Network Manager Jose Luis Carranza thanked the directors and management teams for their support during the entire vaccination process, which helped fulfill the timetable set by the governing body.

Moreover, he congratulated the health staff who received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, since the immunization and fight against the novel coronavirus represents a new life expectancy.
