Peru elected to exercise IOM Council Second Vice-Chairmanship

Peru was elected to serve as Second Vice-Chair of the International Organization for Migration's (IOM) Council, Foreign Affairs Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea reported on Thursday.

"I am pleased to inform that our country continues to increase its political dialogue level at the international level. Peru has been chosen to exercise the Second Vice-Chairmanship at the Council of the International Organization for Migration (IOM)," he said via social media.

Ambassador Ana Cecilia Gervasi will exercise this important global position.

"I predict that the former Foreign Affairs Minister and current Permanent Representative of Peru to International Organizations based in Geneva, Ambassador Ana Cecilia Gervasi, will see the greatest success in the exercise of this important global position. Her career and prestige ensure it," he expressed.


The IOM is part of the United Nations System. It is the intergovernmental organization that since 1951 has promoted humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It has 175 Member States and is present in 171 countries.

The IOM Council is the highest authority and determines the policies of this organization. It meets once a year at a regular session, and on special occasions at specific requirements.
