Peru: Defense Min leads recognition of Army's new commander general

Defense Minister Jorge Chavez Cresta on Thursday led the recognition ceremony for General Cesar Briceño Valdivia as new General Commander of the Peruvian Army.


Deputy Defense Policies Minister Jorge Luis Chaparro, Army General Staff chief, inspector general, among other invited civil and military authorities, attended this event as well.

According to the Law on the Military Status of Armed Forces Officers, general officers or admirals who are appointed as head of the Armed Forces Joint Command (CCFFAA) or general commander of an institution perform duties for a period of two years.

Likewise, through Supreme Resolution No. 140-2023-DE, it was resolved to appoint Briceño Valdivia as General Commander of the Peruvian Army as of January 1, 2024.

During today's ceremony, the presentation of Army General Staff general officers and general commanders took place. Similarly, the new general commander of the Army saluted the war flags and units.

This event took place at the Peruvian Army headquarters in Lima's San Borja district.

On December 27, the appointment of Cesar Augusto Briceño Valdivia as General Commander of the Army and successor to General David Ojeda Parra, who was designated as Armed Forces Joint Command head, was ordered.
