Peru: Culture Ministry rules out impact from alleged decline in Machu Picchu ticket sales

08:38 | Lima, Sep. 16.

The Ministry of Culture (Mincul), through the Decentralized Directorate of Culture in Cusco (DDC Cusco), rules out that any impact could exist from the alleged decline in ticket sales to Machu Picchu Historical Sanctuary.

This is because, to date —according to the official statement— 1,404,492 tickets for entry to Machu Picchu have been sold.

If this sales volume continues, with three months remaining in the fiscal year, the total is expected to reach or even surpass the number of tickets sold in 2019.

In this context, the government agency recalled that in 2019 —the pre-pandemic year— Peru received a historic record of visitors to Machu Picchu, totaling 1,585,262, including both domestic and international tourists.

The Ministry of Culture reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding the integrity and preservation of archaeological sites.

It also calls on all involved institutions to continue fostering joint strategies that guarantee the proper enjoyment of our World Heritage sites.
