Peru condemns violence against Minnesota state lawmakers in U.S.

Peru condemned the acts of violence committed against two lawmakers from the State of Minnesota, United States, and expressed its deepest condolences over the incident.

The message was issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through a post on the X platform on Saturday afternoon.

"The Government of Peru condemns the reprehensible acts of political violence perpetrated against U.S. legislators from the State of Minnesota and expresses its deepest condolences for the murder of State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as for the attack on State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, who were injured," it stated.


The Peruvian government also expressed its solidarity with the affected families and wished a prompt and full recovery for Senator Hoffman and his wife.

"We trust that those responsible for these condemnable acts of violence will be brought to justice," it concluded.
