The closure of the Inca Trail Network of
, in Cusco region, has been extended until Monday, March 31, for visitor access due to heavy rainfall in the area and the risk of natural events such as landslides.
The document specifies that this measure aims to protect the physical integrity and health of visitors from the risks caused by the intense rains that continue in Cusco region, which have caused landslides and instability along various sections of the trails.
It also states that the DDC Cusco and the Headquarters of the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary are carrying out rehabilitation and maintenance work on the Inca Trail Network, which has been affected by heavy rains in Cusco, to ensure the safety of visitors, guides, tour operators, and institutional personnel.
This marks the second postponement of the reopening of the Inca Trail Network to Machu Picchu.
The route was closed throughout February for maintenance and reinforcement of tourist areas, with reopening initially scheduled for March 1.
However, due to heavy rainfall and landslides, the closure was extended until March 15.
Due to ongoing moderate to heavy rainfall and the occurrence of landslides in some areas, authorities have decided to postpone the reopening of the Inca Trail Network for a second time.
The statement clarifies that refunds for Inca Trail entrance tickets to Machu Picchu will be processed according to established procedures.
Visitors have the option to receive a refund for their ticket or, alternatively, access Route 3B, a designated path to Machu Picchu.
