Lima Mayor Jorge Muñoz received 5,000 molecular-based tests from the People's Republic of China, which will be used in the preventive health campaign called "Lima Te Cuida" (Lima Takes Care of You), which has provided health-care services to 7,800 residents in the Lima Metropolitan Area.

The municipal authority noted that the molecular-based tests will allow contrasting rapid testing results of patients with COVID-19 symptoms in order to measure the virus activity level in the community and take action, in coordination with local municipalities and neighborhood leaders.

"This morning, we met with Chinese Ambassador to Peru Liang Yu, whom I thanked for the delivery of these molecular-based tests donated by the city of Beijing, as well as 20,000 disposable face masks, 5,100 N95 respirators and protective equipment, such as glasses, clothing, gloves and thermometers, donated by the cities of Shanghai and Yiwu, for the protection of residents in the Lima Metropolitan Area," he expressed.

The Lima Mayor reported that well-trained professional staff at the Metropolitan System of Solidarity (SISOL-Salud) will be in charge of conducting the tests.

In addition, he affirmed that patients will be able to access their results at the National Health Institute's website five days after testing.

It should be noted that these preventive actions are joined by campaigns on disinfection of quintas (sets of houses), on creation of organic gardens, as well as information campaigns aimed at grocery store owners, motorcycle taxi drivers and families in the six human settlements that make up the Cerro La Papa-Union Villa area in Villa El Salvador.

"We have not defeated the virus. We must seek maximum protection and care as long as we live with it," Muñoz concluded.

Remarks were made on day 26 of the aforementioned campaign held in Lima's peripheral Villa El Salvador district.
