Peru: Capital goods imports up 25% between January and May 2026

Capital goods imports totaled US$8.46 billion between January and May this year, a 25.1% increase compared to the same period in 2025, when they amounted to US$6.764 billion, according to data from the latest Weekly Report issued by the Central Reserve Bank (BCR).

The BCR noted that capital goods imports comprise machinery for agriculture and industry, construction materials, and transport equipment.

By category

Imports of capital goods for industry totaled US$5.154 billion between January and May this year, a 19.4% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Meanwhile, capital goods imports for agriculture reached US$112 million between January and May this year, a 14.2% rise compared to the same period in 2025.

For their part, transport equipment imports totaled US$2.438 billion between January and May this year, a 36.6% growth compared to the same period in 2025.

Likewise, construction material imports reached US$757 million between January and May this year, a 34.4% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Capital goods imports refer to purchases of machinery, equipment, and materials from abroad used to produce other goods or provide certain services.
