reported on Monday that companies from the United States, Europe, India, and other Asian countries have expressed interest in the Corio Port project, with an estimated investment of US$844.48 million.
During the event "Corio Port City: A New Development Platform for the South," Sanchez highlighted the agreement signed between the Arequipa Region Government and the Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversion) to boost the port initiative.
"Today, we signed an agreement for ProInversion to lead the development of all investments involved in Corio Port City. As a regional government, we have registered 34,596 hectares of land for the various designated zones," Sanchez explained.
"The port's core area covers 1,127 hectares and will likely be developed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). There will also be an industrial and technological development zone, as well as a logistics area," he added.
The Arequipa Region Government projected that the port initiative could generate more than 50,000 direct jobs and 150,000 indirect jobs, while also contributing to the development of technical skills, innovation, and knowledge transfer.
"Being a megaport, Corio will drive the planning and implementation of road and railway projects, as well as connections to the airport," the governor said.
The Master Plan for the Corio Port Terminal was approved by the National Port Authority in September 2026.
ProInversion aims to advance public-private coordination and promote the investment needed to gradually develop the project and its logistics entourage.
