A delegation from the U.S. State of Utah, led by Senate President J. Stuart Adams, paid a working visit to the city of Cusco.

In the southeastern city, the foreign group met with local authorities and the Secretary General of the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Eric Anderson.

The visit by the Utah delegation is part of its work agenda aimed at positioning Cusco's potential.

Its objective was to foster new opportunities for trade, investment, and tourism in Cusco region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

The meeting made it possible to identify strategic sectors of mutual interest, highlighting tourism, agribusiness, education, and the textile industry—areas in which Cusco has competitive advantages and a growing export potential.

Local authorities from Cusco and the U.S. delegation conducted a detailed review of Cusco's export offer, placing special emphasis on coffee, cacao, corn, and native fruits such as aguaymanto—products that are in growing international demand and could strengthen Peruvian presence in specialized consumer niches.

The potential of alpaca textiles, jewelry, and superfoods such as quinoa and kiwicha—recognized in the United States for their high quality and nutritional value—was also highlighted.

During his presentation, Ambassador Anderson underscored the importance of building a strategic partnership with Utah's public and private sectors to develop value-added products and services capable of positioning themselves both in the U.S. market and in third markets across the region.

The diplomat said this vision seeks to enable Cusco's producers to achieve greater competitiveness and allow citizens to benefit from new foreign trade chains.

The visit coincided with the recent inauguration of the first direct flight between Salt Lake City and Lima, opening a promising new phase for trade, investment, and tourism, as well as significantly improving connectivity for the Peruvian community residing in Utah and on the U.S. West Coast.

This new air route facilitates business exchanges, boosts new business opportunities, and expands travel experiences to iconic destinations such as Cusco and Machu Picchu.

Lastly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its commitment to continue promoting strategic partnerships that generate tangible benefits for Cusco region, strengthen its international presence, and provide its citizens with new opportunities for sustainable economic development.
