Peru and New Zealand have agreed to foster a shared agenda aimed at strengthening trade, investment, connectivity, and scientific cooperation.
During the meeting, both delegations reviewed the main topics on the bilateral agenda, highlighting economic and trade cooperation, sustainable investments promotion, as well as maritime and air connectivity expansion, in line with the Air Services Agreement in effect since 2023.
The dialogue underlined Peru's interest in diversifying bilateral trade through high-quality agri-food and fishery products, such as blueberries, asparagus, and Eureka lemons.
Both delegations underscored the importance of strengthening connectivity between the ports of Peru and New Zealand within the framework of growing trans-Pacific trade activity.
In this context, Peru reaffirmed its interest in attracting New Zealand investments in strategic sectors such as infrastructure, responsible mining, technological innovation, and logistics development, with special emphasis on the future logistics, technology, and industrial hub of the Peruvian central coast.
Both parties agreed on the importance of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), of which they are members, and on Peru's interest in joining the Digital Economic Partnership Agreement (DEPA) as platforms that strengthen economic and digital integration in the Asia-Pacific.
The South American country expressed its gratitude to New Zealand for its support to the accession process to the DEPA and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
In the environmental sphere, the joint work between the Peruvian Sea Institute (Imarpe) and New Zealand's Department of Conservation (DOC) on seabird conservation was highlighted, as well as both parties' willingness to expand scientific research under the Agreement on the Conservation of Albatrosses and Petrels (ACAP).
The meeting reviewed the extensive alignment in multilateral forums such as the United Nations, APEC, FOCALAE, the Pacific Alliance, and ASEAN, reaffirming both countries' commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation.
The importance of deepening educational cooperation and expanding the number of slots in the “Working Holiday Scheme,” given its high demand and success among young Peruvians, was likewise highlighted.
The relevance of continuing collaboration in women's empowerment, innovation, environmental protection, as well as the fight against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing was also emphasized.
Lastly, the delegations discussed the current global situation and agreed to maintain a continuous and constructive dialogue to further strengthen the friendship and cooperation bonds between Peru and New Zealand.
