As part of efforts to exchange experiences in combating drug trafficking, the Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry's Director General for Multilateral and Global Affairs, Ambassador Luis Ugarelli, held a meeting with a delegation from Germany's Federal Ministry of Finance and the Customs Criminal Investigation Office.

The meeting was held at the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Lima on April 15, within the framework of the upcoming signing of a Joint Declaration of Intent between the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT) and the Customs Criminal Investigation Office in Cologne.

The German delegation was led by Ministerial Director for Customs, VAT and Excise Duties, Bastian Fleig, along with the President of the Customs Criminal Investigation Office, Tino Igelmann.

Both were accompanied by Germany's Ambassador to Peru, Sabine Bloch.

During the meeting, Ambassador Ugarelli presented the Foreign Affairs Ministry's priorities in tackling transnational organized crime, with particular emphasis on drug trafficking.

The diplomat highlighted Peru's South American Ports Alliance initiative, aimed at developing a coordination and cooperation platform to strengthen security at ports across the region and more effectively address challenges posed by illicit drug trafficking and its precursors.

He also underscored the importance of the upcoming third technical meeting of focal points under this initiative, scheduled to take place in Peru on April 21–22.
