Peru and Azerbaijan held the first meeting of their Political Consultations Mechanism in Lima on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister Denegri highlighted the mutual interest in strengthening ties.
The Peruvian diplomat noted that this mechanism allows for boosting cooperation projects in areas such as tourism, security, culture, and sports.
He added that its development could have a significant and tangible impact on the well-being of both nations.
In turn, the Azerbaijani deputy minister emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation ties with regional organizations such as the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the Pacific Alliance.
Azerbaijan has been an observer state of the Pacific Alliance since 2019.
On the economic front, Peru and Azerbaijan highlighted their sustained growth, ability to attract investments, and macroeconomic stability.
In this regard, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Denegri stated that Peru, as part of its trade openness policy, always welcomes foreign capital.
Both countries were also highlighted as an important geoeconomic link, with Peru playing a strategic role in the Asia-Pacific region and Azerbaijan serving as a hub in the South Caucasus.
Lastly, Peru's leadership in the fight against the illicit trafficking of cultural goods was highlighted.
As nations with a rich and millennia-old cultural heritage, both countries agreed on the importance of strengthening technical cooperation in this field, sharing experiences to protect their heritage.
