The
Ministry of Health (Minsa) has been administering booster doses of Pfizer and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines to reinforce the protection of millions of Peruvians against COVID-19.
According to Minsa, out of the 8,271,885 booster doses administered in the country, 289,110 were from AstraZeneca and 7,981,977 from Pfizer.
Minsa Immunization Director Gabriela Jimenez explained that the sector aims to administer COVID booster doses to at least 16 million people over 18 years of age by February 28 —an ambitious goal that is expected to be achieved with the support of the population.
"As of February 28, at least 16 million citizens must have received their booster dose. Close to 9 million have so far got their booster shot; therefore, nearly 7 million people have not received the third dose," she said.
According to the Minsa protocol, booster doses are only available to people aged 12 and over with comorbidities and in the high-risk group, as well as to people 18 years of age and older.
Both groups will be administered the booster dose 3 months after the second dose (first and second dose).
In order to receive the booster dose, people will have to present their vaccination certificate, in digital or paper format.
Those who have been vaccinated abroad must provide evidence that they have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
