Mining accounted for 76.1% of Peru's total exports between January and April this year, proving the sector's role as the country's leading source of foreign exchange earnings, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) stated.

Likewise, the government agency noted that mining exports totaled US$28.962 billion during the period, up 60.6% compared to the same period in 2025.

Furthermore, Minem reported that exports of metallic and non-metallic minerals totaled US$7.313 billion in April 2026, a 75% increase from a year earlier, driven primarily by higher international prices, especially for copper.

This result was supported by sustained demand for metals from the industrial, technology, and energy sectors, which continues to strengthen Peru's position as one of the world's leading suppliers of strategic minerals.

The General Directorate for Mining Promotion and Sustainability (DGPSM) also noted that the international context of geopolitical and economic uncertainty boosted demand for precious metals as safe-haven assets, particularly driving up gold prices.

According to the Mining Statistical Bulletin (BEM), mining shipments accounted for 76.1% of the total value of Peru's exports between January and April 2026, reaffirming the subsector's position as the country's leading source of foreign exchange earnings.

Of that total, metallic mining products accounted for 75.3%. Meanwhile, non-metallic mining products contributed 0.8%.

As for the composition of the export basket, copper, gold, lead, and zinc accounted for 93.1% of the value of mining shipments and 70.9% of Peru's total exports, reflecting the strategic importance of these resources to Peru's economy.

This performance reflects the country's extensive mineral reserves and well-established production capacity, which have positioned Peru as the world's third-largest copper producer and one of the leading producers of various metals.

Minem highlighted that Peru is recognized as a polymetallic country with abundant reserves of copper, gold, zinc, silver, lead, tin, and iron.

This underpins the significant share of these products in the mining subsector's export structure and their contribution to Peru's economic development.
