On Monday, January 16, 2012, Broadway's celebrated revival of John Kander, Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse's Tony Award-winning musical Chicago will welcome Peruvian star Marco Zunino as he makes his Broadway stage debut in the role of "that silver-tongued prince of the courtroom," Billy Flynn.
A native of Lima, Zunino began his acting career at the age of 14, having appeared in several Latin American soap operas and television miniseries. Later, he moved to America to study at New York City's renowned Circle in the Square Theatre School.
Upon returning to his hometown, Zunino worked steadily starring in television soap operas and miniseries before starring in Latin American productions of Jesus Christ Superstar (Jesus), West Side Story (Tony), Rent (Roger) and Cabaret (Emcee), the latter of which earned him Peru's highest acting achievement in 2009.
Zunino will appear in Chicago for a four-week limited engagement through Sunday, February 12, broadwayworld.com reported.
In 2013, he is slated to headline the first-ever Latin American production of The Boy from Oz, based on the life story of singer/songwriter Peter Allen.
With a legendary book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, Chicago is the winner of six 1997 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Recording.
Directed by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Tony Award winner Ann Reinking, Chicago features set design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by Tony Award winner William Ivey Long, lighting design by Tony Award winner Ken Billington and sound design by Scott Lehrer.
