After inspecting the progress made in the upgrade of
Jorge Chavez International Airport, the
President of the Republic Dina Boluarte affirmed that this improvement will allow it to serve 40 million passengers in 2025 and will help Peru become a trade, logistical, and tourism hub in Latin America.
"We've just verified that nearly 80% of works are complete at this airport, which will be the first airport city in South America; more than US$2 billion has been invested. Our goal is to turn our country into a trade, logistical, and tourism hub in Latin America, considering its strategic location in the region," she remarked.
The dignitary underscored that the new Jorge Chavez airport will have two landing strips located 70 kilometers from the mega port of Chancay, which will facilitate connectivity with Asia, Europe, and the rest of the Americas.
The Head of State affirmed that the airport city will include a passenger terminal, two landing strips, a new control tower, two 3- and 5-star hotel buildings, a cargo area, a logistics park, a fuel plant that will triple its current capacity, and a parking area.
"The new Jorge Chavez passenger terminal will be three times larger than the current one; it will go from an area of 90,000 square meters to 270,000 square meters in 2025. Our main airport will become the most important and modern air terminal in South America," Mrs. Boluarte stated.
At the beginning, she said, this airport will serve 30 million passengers, and by 2025, it will expand its capacity to 40 million passengers per year.
Besides, the new landing strip will be essential to schedule and enable humanitarian flights that will make it possible to assist those affected by rains, floods, and other natural phenomena.
"This work is a new boost to private investment because it has established itself as an important engine for the economy and is an example of what public and private sectors can do to promote growth and development in our country," she added.
