The Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group filed charges against former President Ollanta Humala, former First Lady Nadine Heredia, and former Economy-Finance Minister Luis Miguel Castilla in the case known as Gasoducto Sur Peruano (Southern Peru Gas Pipeline).
This information was released by the Public Ministry on social media platforms.
For Humala and Heredia, a 35-year prison sentence was requested for illicit association to commit crimes and money laundering.
Meanwhile, for former Minister Castilla, a 29-year prison sentence is requested for the offenses such as criminal organization and aggravated collusion.
According to the investigations, Humala, Heredia, and Castilla allegedly favored the consortium led by Brazilian company Odebrecht in the bidding and awarding of the Southern Peru Gas Pipeline project.
The prosecution's thesis states that a criminal organization allegedly took root within the Executive Branch from 2011 to 2016, led by the former president and first lady, along with former ministers and other officials, to award contracts for projects to certain favored companies.
