Former President Ollanta Humala was admitted to Barbadillo Prison, in Lima's Ate district, to serve a 15-year sentence for money laundering, stemming from the investigation into illicit contributions to the Nationalist Party made during the 2006 and 2011 electoral campaigns.

Humala Tasso was placed in the aforementioned prison Tuesday evening after the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) completed the classification process.

Barbadillo Prison currently holds former Presidents Alejandro Toledo and Pedro Castillo

Ollanta Humala had previously been held at the same prison facility under pre-trial detention over illicit contributions to the Nationalist Party.

The Third National Collegiate Criminal Court sentenced Ollanta Humala and wife, Nadine Heredia, to 15 years of effective imprisonment for money laundering.

The full reading of the document is scheduled for April 29.
