The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported on Wednesday that Peru's economy grew 1.80% in May this year compared with the same month in 2025.

The growth was driven by the strong performance of the Trade (6.91%); Other Services; and Mining and Hydrocarbons (2.60%) sectors, which together accounted for 95% of the overall result.

The Construction (4.66%); Government Services (3.69%); Services Provided to Companies (3.52%); Transportation, Storage, and Courier Services (2.42%); Accommodation and Restaurants (5.05%); Finance and Insurance (1.79%); Electricity, Gas and Water (5.21%); Telecommunications & Other Information Services (0.65%); and Agriculture & Livestock (0.10%) sectors also posted solid performances.

By contrast, the Manufacturing (-10.67%) and Fishing (-73.10%) sectors registered negative results, mainly due to weather-related conditions that affected the availability of hydrobiological resources and the textile industry's production cycle.

INEI noted that Peru's economic activity grew 3.20% between January and May 2026, while increasing 3.54% in the 12-month period from June 2025 to May 2026.

As a result, Peru's economy recorded 26 consecutive months of expansion.
