Gov't reaffirms intention to have Peru join group of countries with best economies

18:36 | Lima, Sep. 27.

As proof of the Executive Branch's steadfast commitment to have Peru join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Prime Minister Alberto Otarola and State Ministers held a meeting with the bloc's Secretary-General Mathias Cormann.

The meeting took place within the framework of the release of the OECD's first Economic Survey of Peru, in which the organization conducts an exhaustive review of the Peruvian economy.

This is a step forward in the process of accession to the bloc of countries with the best economies in the world.

"The joint presence of State ministers, at the meeting, shows the support from Peruvian authorities for the technical efforts that are being made by the sectors involved in the goal of Peru's accession to the OECD," the Cabinet chief remarked.

Peru's participation in the Economic Survey is a milestone in this journey, as it constitutes a first economic review, from a comprehensive development approach.

Ad-hoc recommendations, aimed at gearing the country towards an inclusive and sustainable development, will derive from this review. Each economy is reviewed about every two years.

The Government of President Dina Boluarte has expressed its political willingness to continue making progress towards the achievement of this goal, coordinating multisector actions and implementing the required technical efforts.

"We are aware that better practices will allow for an inclusive and sustainable growth. We want this visit to be fruitful and to address the problems, progress, and challenges facing Peru ahead of its accession to the OECD," the Prime Minister stated.

For his part, Mathias Cormann, highlighted Peru's opportunities for the future.

"I am pleased with Peru's constant development in the last year. Our visit here, in addition to discussing the economic review and the accession process, is also a vote of confidence," he said.

It should be noted the Initial Memorandum, which reaffirms the Peruvian State's willingness to accessing the OECD, was delivered to Mathias Cormann in June this year in Paris, France.
