"The Government of Peru deeply values and expresses its satisfaction with the decision of the Government of Japan to reinstate the exemption from the visa requirement for those fellow nationals wishing to enter Japanese territory for a period not exceeding 90 consecutive days," the communiqué stated.
The
government agency specified that this measure will take effect on July 1, 2025, in accordance with the announcement issued today in Tokyo by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs through an official statement.
The visa exemption will be applicable to Peruvians who have a valid ordinary passport that meets the standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for passports with integrated circuits.
"This exemption will remain in force until June 30, 2028, and may be renewed," the Peruvian Ministry confirmed.
Excellent level of relations
The
Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also recalls that the visa exemption announcement was communicated to President Dina Boluarte by the Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, during a meeting between both authorities in Lima in November 2024. It reflects the excellent level of bilateral relations between Peru and Japan.
"Within the framework of a foreign policy aimed at facilitating the international mobility of Peruvian citizens, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs undertook intensive efforts to ensure that this offer is implemented as soon as possible," it emphasized.
In this context, the Peruvian government reiterates its firm commitment to strengthening the historic ties of friendship and cooperation with Japan, which have existed for 152 years, and reaffirms its willingness to continue promoting a foreign policy that supports connectivity, economic development, and closer relations between nations.
Visa exemption
The Government of Japan announced that it will lift the measure recommending prior visa acquisition for Peruvian citizens who hold valid ordinary Peruvian electronic passports compatible with ICAO regulations, starting July 1, 2025.
It will apply to trips for short stays, for a period not exceeding 90 consecutive days.
