The signing of the Free Trade Agreements (FTA) with Canada and Singapore will help to achieve the goal of reducing poverty to 30 percent in 2011, said today Jaime Cáceres Sayán, president of the National Confederation of Private Business Association (Confiep).
“The country's efforts to reduce poverty will be strengthened with the signing of both FTAs. This shows a positive trend towards achieving the government's goal of reducing poverty to 30 percent by the end of its administration”, he told Andina news agency.
For this reason, Cáceres Sayán pointed out that the signing of two new trade deals in less than a year of having signed a FTA with the United States, will encourage private investment, create more jobs and reduce extreme poverty.
With the signing of said agreements, Cáceres highlighted the importance of also directing our efforts to reach a FTA with the European Union.
“It is known that the only way to reduce poverty is through employment, and employment can be only generated through investment. The goal of signing a FTA is not only to promote trade exchange, but attract further investment that generate jobs, and therefore, reduce poverty rates”, he said.
