"Hello, folks! You filled this huge stadium. Are you ready for a crazy night?" V, a member of South Korean boy band BTS, said in Spanish Wednesday night.
His remarks came amid the collective euphoria of the "ARMY" who attended the first of three concerts the group will perform at Lima's San Marcos Stadium as part of its "Arirang" world tour.
The show kicked off to the sound of "Hooligan," with the stadium awash in purple and packed with fans simply in love with their idols.
The seven members of the K-pop group —RM, Jin, SUGA, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook— greeted the audience in Spanish and interacted with fans who arrived early to secure a good spot on the field.
In turn, Jungkook said, "It is our first time in Lima. We will make this night special."
Jimin added, "It took us a long time to come to Lima, so we will put on an incredible show."
SUGA then took his turn and asked, "Are you ready?"
Jin followed up: "I am ready, BTS is ready. ARMY, are you ready?"
Suddenly, J-Hope said with a broad smile, "I feel like it's going to be crazy. I trust you tonight."
And RM, in a bid to further fire up the crowd, said, "Dear Lima, very good."
The interaction in Spanish continued throughout the concert, much to the delight of ARMY, who sang and danced along with the South Korean band until they were hoarse.
The stadium was brightly illuminated.
Some of the songs BTS performed during its first concert in Lima included "FYA," "Merry Go Round," "Body to Body," "Fire," "Not Today," and "Normal."
The fandom reached absolute ecstasy when BTS said, "Peru is key," a moment that will remain etched in the minds and memories of every attendee.
The South Korean group will perform two more concerts on October 9 and 10 at San Marcos Stadium in Lima.
21st-century pop icons
BTS, an acronym for Bangtan Sonyeondan or Beyond the Scene, is a Grammy-nominated South Korean boy band that has captured the hearts of millions of fans around the world since its debut in June 2013, Ticketmaster noted.
Known for its authentic, self-produced music, high-level performances, and the way its members interact with their fans, BTS has established itself as a 21st-century pop icon, breaking countless records worldwide.
And that was evident in Peru last Wednesday night.
