As part of the general debate, Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Espa delivered a pre-recorded message in which he reaffirmed Peru's commitment to the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
Likewise, the Cabinet member highlighted progress in cooperation with the IAEA in priority areas such as health, food security, water resource management, the environment, and energy, for the benefit of the country's sustainable development.
Peru's Permanent Representative in Vienna, Ambassador Maria Eugenia Echeverria, was a panelist at the IAEA-organized side event, "Atoms4Food: Shaping Country-Owned Pathways for Food and Nutrition Security – Member States' Experiences from Country Assessment Missions."
The session aimed to share the experiences and lessons learned by countries that have received Country Assessment Missions under this initiative.
In her remarks, the ambassador underscored Peru's experience as the first country in Latin America and the Caribbean to receive an Atoms4Food Country Assessment Mission, conducted by a multidisciplinary team of experts from the IAEA and the FAO.
She also noted that the mission helped strengthen coordination among national institutions and identify opportunities to expand the use of nuclear and isotopic technologies.
These include soil and water management, animal production and health, fruit fly control, and food safety.
The event was held in Vienna, Austria, from September 14 to 18.
