Fiorentinas’s new coach, Sinisa Mihajlovic, said he would like the Peruvian winger Juan Manuel Vargas to stay at the Italian side.
Although Vargas’ contract with Fiorentina ends in 2012, there have been rumours regarding the Peruvian signing for Real Madrid, which would be willing to pay up to €30 million for the transfer.
The Italian website Firenzeviola.it reported that Mihajlovic hopes the Peruvian can continue playing for the club, so he can be part of his new project leading the Viola.
Vargas future will be decided after the World Cup.
The 26 year-old enjoyed an impressive season in Florence, displaying his versatility by playing at both left-back and left-winger over the course of the season, and was one of his team's standout players in both Serie A and the Champions League.
Vargas is currently on vacations in Lima recovering from an ankle injury. He is due to return to Italy in mid-July as his agent deals with any negotiations regarding a potential transfer.
However, the Peruvian has reiterated he wants to stay at Fiorentina as he "likes the city, the club and the fans.”
