The
Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday night reported that the Consulate General in Mexico remains in contact with fellow citizens affected by Hurricane Otis in the city of Acapulco.
According to the government agency, the group of affected compatriots is made up of 18 PromPeru delegation members who were in the North American country at the time of said event, in addition to a group of tourists.
In this sense, the Consulate in Mexico has been coordinating actions with local authorities and is attentive to measures to restore access roads, with the aim of assisting more fellow citizens.
The ministry also reported that the Consulate in Mexico is verifying the status of other compatriots who may require attention.
Hurricane Otis
Hurricane Otis caused at least 27 deaths and major damage as it lashed Mexico's resort city of Acapulco as a scale-topping category 5 storm, AFP reported.
Otis crashed into Acapulco with furious winds of 270 kilometers per hour, shattering windows, uprooting trees, and largely cutting off communications and road links with the region.
The storm partially destroyed many buildings, leaving gaping holes in the walls of high-rise towers.
Some residents slogged for hours through mud and debris in an attempt to find food and shelter.
