Peru is preparing for its participation in the APEC Korea 2025 Economic Leaders' Week. The aim is to exchange ideas on advancing international cooperation in science, technology, and innovation.

In this context, a delegation from the Foreign Affairs Ministry's APEC and Specialized Forums Directorate, led by Renato Reyes, met with officials from the National Council for Science, Technology, and Technological Innovation (Concytec), headed by its chairman, Sixto Sanchez.

During the meeting, Reyes and Sanchez discussed the possibility of establishing closer ties with Korea and other APEC member economies to develop potential cooperation schemes enabling technology transfer in areas such as biotechnology, nanotechnology, and environmental management, among others.

Likewise, Sanchez expressed the desire to develop a biotechnology laboratory in Peru focused on areas such as food security, marine security, medicines for orphan diseases, vaccines, synthetic biology, among other fields.

Concytec and Foreign Affairs Ministry officials agreed on the need to build national research networks that include not only the academic sector but also the private sector.

Therefore, they highlighted the importance of promoting public-private partnerships for the development of technological innovation in Peru, as well as the mobility of Peruvian scientists across the Asia-Pacific region.

Reyes congratulated Concytec for its active participation in APEC.

Similarly, he stressed that this forum enables Peruvian institutions to exchange experiences on successful policies with other member economies, as well as to deepen collaboration schemes.

Officials from both institutions agreed to work together to develop proposals that could be translated into cooperation projects within the framework of APEC.
