Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi has highlighted the importance of the peace accords signed by Peru and Ecuador in Brasilia 25 years ago, describing them as one of the greatest foreign policy achievements for both countries.

The government official on Thursday participated in the commemoration ceremony for the anniversary of said diplomatic instruments, which consolidated peace between Peru and Ecuador.

The diplomat pointed out that, thanks to these accords, the reconciliation between both countries was consolidated and the foundations for a renewed bilateral relationship were established.

In this sense, Minister Gervasi underscored the role played by Peruvian and Ecuadorian diplomats, as well as by guarantor countries.

They were part of a negotiation process "which was one of the most complex in our history, given that it required perseverance, creativity, and conviction," she indicated.

100% Diplomacy

Minister Gervasi affirmed that the Brasilia Peace Accords are testimony to the very essence of diplomacy.

"The peace, friendship, cooperation, and integration that we celebrate today were built on our respective national interests," she noted.

Therefore, Gervasi expressed recognition to the former foreign affairs ministers, former deputy foreign affairs ministers, ambassadors, and diplomatic officials who, thanks to their dedication and high professionalism, made it possible to achieve peace.

"Torre Tagle (Palace diplomats' professionalism) was, is, and will be at the level of Peru's permanent interests," she stated.

Similarly, the Peruvian Foreign Affairs minister highlighted the recent incorporation of the Brasilia Peace Accords into the UNESCO National Memory of the World Register.

"This recognition reaffirms the historic significance and the great importance of said documentary set, which we hope will become an inspiration in a global context marked by conflict and polarization," she highlighted.
