National Elections Board (JNE) Chairman Roberto Burneo Bermejo called on Peruvians to go to the polls and vote calmly in the 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections (ERM), which are taking place today.

"We call for calm and urge everyone taking part to conduct themselves in accordance with the law and respect democratic rules," Burneo stated.

"Rest assured that the National Elections Board and the entire electoral system are ensuring due process at every stage," he added during a press conference.

The electoral authority stressed that all coordination efforts with the authorities responsible for security have been carried out.

"We thank the National Police for their strong commitment, as well as the Army, which has deployed a large number of personnel across the national territory," Burneo emphasized.

The JNE head also said electoral materials have been at all polling stations since the previous day.

"We are aware that polling tables have already been set up in some places since 6:00 a.m., so we once again call for this day to proceed peacefully and for voters to make their decisions in the best possible way," he added.

Today, the 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections are being held nationwide to elect a total of 13,148 subnational authorities, including regional governors and deputy governors, regional councilors, provincial and district mayors, as well as provincial and district councilors.

For this election day, polling tables operate from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to facilitate voting by citizens, the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) reported.
