The construction sector grew 8.9% in February compared with the same month last year, mainly driven by stronger private-sector projects, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported.

As a result, the sector posted cumulative growth of 12.3% so far this year, the monetary authority said.

In its latest March Inflation Report, the BCR raised its 2026 growth forecast for the construction sector from 2.5% to 6%, citing the momentum the industry has shown since last year.

The BCR said domestic cement consumption increased 11.5% in February due to higher shipments by Unacem, reflecting stronger bulk sales.

Shipments by Yura in southern Peru and Pacasmayo in the north increased as well.

Regarding public works, the BCR said activity rose 1.5% due to higher investment by regional and local governments, while central government investment moderated.

By type of project, investment increased mainly in road infrastructure and basic services, while spending declined in risk-prevention works and non-residential buildings.
