BCR: Credit to Peru's private sector up 10.3% year-on-year in Aug 2026

Total credit to the private sector, which includes loans granted by banks, financial institutions, municipal and rural savings banks, and cooperatives, increased its year-on-year growth rate from 9.4% in July to 10.3% in August 2026, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported.

Likewise, credit balances in the eighth month of 2026 rose 1.6% compared with the previous month.

By segment, year-on-year growth in credit to individuals accelerated from 9.9% in July to 10.6% in August, mainly driven due to an increase in consumer loans.

Meanwhile, credit to businesses posted year-on-year growth of 10.1% in August, up from 9% in July.

Loans by currency

By currency, the BCR reported that credit in Peruvian soles accelerated from year-on-year growth of 8.2% in July to 9.1% in August.

Meanwhile, credit in foreign currency increased from 13.6% to 14.6% over the same period.

In terms of month-on-month growth, credit in domestic currency increased 1.6%, while credit in U.S. dollars rose 1.7%.
