A number of pre-Hispanic archaeological monuments located in the Pasco, Junín, Arequipa and Lima regions has been declared national cultural heritage by Peru's National Institute of Culture (INC).

The INC decision aims to encourage local authorities to introduce and promote sustainable measures for the conservation of these ancient sites.

From now on, every road, highway, canal, mining or agricultural project that might affect or alter the landscape of these archaeological pre-Hispanic monuments must have prior authorization from the INC.

Other notable historic monuments declared national heritage include: San Nicolás de Tambogán Temple and Casa Parroquial (Parochial House) in Huanuco region as well as the Q’eswachaka Bridge in Cusco.

The resolution declaring these sites Peru's national cultural heritage was signed by the Director of Peru’s National Institute of Culture (INC), Cecilia Bakula.
