The
2024 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, which will bring together leaders from some of the most influential economies in the Asia-Pacific region, will generate a significant economic revenue, primarily for hotel chains in Lima due to the arrival of 6,000 delegates and 2,500 journalists.
Fredy Gamarra, General Manager of the Peruvian Association of Hotels, Restaurants, and Related Services (Ahora Perú), noted that there is a high number of hotel bookings at favorable rates.
In this context, he recommended consolidating a convention bureau in Lima for these business tourists, who spend an average of US$ 1,400—higher than the typical spending of regular foreign visitors.
Gamarra highlighted that APEC will significantly enhance Peru's image due to the media coverage provided by journalists from the world's most influential economies, and because many participants are likely to explore Peruvian tourism activities before and after the main event.
He added that a reinforcing multiplier effect is expected, as some visitors may be inclined to return after experiencing Peru's attractions, culture, and gastronomy.
Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.

Together, they account for 62% of world's GDP, 48% of global trade in goods and services, plus 38% of the planet's population.
