APEC Peru 2024: Arequipa to host Meeting of Trade, Women Ministers

On May 17, the Peruvian city of Arequipa will host the Joint Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Women and Ministers Responsible for Trade of the 21 economies that make up the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

During the upcoming event, a Joint Declaration of the Ministers of Women and Trade will be signed for the development of initiatives that contribute to empowering female citizens in commerce.


It will be held within the framework of the Second Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM2) and related events that take place at Cerro Juli Convention Center in the White City from May 4 to 18.


Women and Economy Forum / High-Level Policy Dialogue on Women and the Economy (HLPDWE) on May 16


It will explore strategies to strengthen women's participation in the economy, including the promotion of their participation in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).


Joint Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Women and Ministers Responsible for Trade on May 17


The joint meeting will focus on women's economic empowerment through trade in the Asia-Pacific region.


Ministers Responsible for Trade (MRT) Meeting on May 18 


It will allow APEC ministers and other high-level authorities to build on the first priority of APEC 2024, which focuses on "Trade and Investment for Inclusive and Interconnected Growth."

In this sense, discussions will center on issues such as trade liberalization, trade facilitation, commerce, and inclusion.

Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.
