President Vizcarra: Major infrastructure works prove confidence in Peru

The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Thursday affirmed that the major infrastructure works —which are being developed in different parts of the country— show the confidence investors and the private sector have in Peru.

During the ceremony marking the start of modernization works on the Salaverry Multipurpose Port Terminal —located near the northern city of Trujillo— the Head of State said this project is the sum of efforts by the three levels of Government along with private investment in order to make the projects come true, which had been expected for several years.

"This type of investment proves the confidence that investors, capital, and the private sector have in Peru, as this is not a single project. The contract has already been signed, so there is a schedule. Just like investments are made in the port terminal, the same will be made in the Trujillo airport," he expressed.

Likewise, the top official indicated that port-related works are not only being developed in La Libertad region, but also in Pisco thanks to an investment of US$250 million, whereas US$3 billion will be invested in the Chancay Port Terminal.

"With this, we will rely on a port offer available from the south to the north, and that investment adds up to important investments such as that linked to (Lima's) Jorge Chavez (International) Airport, where the construction of a second runway and the new passenger terminal is planned," he added.

The statesman said that "if private investment continues (being made) in major projects, if all government levels continue working together, our country will consolidate an economic, healthy, and robust position, which is what we all Peruvians want."

"These types of projects and investments are the ones that generate confidence and optimism in the future of Peru," he noted.

In this sense, the statesman assured the citizens that if such investments are joined by the improvement of State-run institutions —through the political and judicial reforms, as well as the consolidation and strengthening of democracy— they will lay the foundations for the Independence Bicentennial.

That way, the year 2021 will come at a time when the country is supported by "solid bases that guarantee the development of all Peruvians," he concluded.
