Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday guaranteed that the parliamentary elections scheduled for January 26, 2020, will be free, competitive, and transparent.

"In line with our democratic convictions and our unrestricted respect for the Constitution, the laws of the Republic, and the institutions that comprise it, we will guarantee free, competitive, and transparent elections," the Head of State expressed.

As he noted, Peruvian citizens —based in the country and overseas— will once again have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote, which will strengthen democracy.

"We are confident that, with the firm willingness to work for Peru, the Parliament —to be elected on January 26— will be able to pass laws and reforms that improve the quality of life of Peruvians, as well as strengthen institutionalism and democracy," Vizcarra added.

Likewise, the President said that —in order to enable citizens to express their will— the main bills and legislative measures considered relevant will be made available to the parties and candidates.

This way, he stressed, candidates will be able to express themselves during the campaign, and citizens will rely on the necessary information when casting their votes.

Remarks were made during the presentation of the cabinet's measures by Prime Minister Vicente Zeballos.

Regional governors, mayors, as well as representatives of political parties, business groups, and civil society attended the ceremony at the Government Palace in Lima.
