Peru and China reaffirmed their commitment to promote sustainable mining through the use of clean technologies, within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2024, which aims to hold talks on promoting mining investment.
During the session, both sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in boosting responsible investments that foster economic growth and create opportunities for both countries.
"The mutual interest shared by both States is not only to develop exploration and exploitation, but also to move forward in processing with technological mechanisms and means," Deputy Mines Minister Ronald Ibarra underlined.
"Clean technologies will allow our countries to achieve better development," he added.
The dialogue made it possible to consolidate a shared vision on the importance of promoting sustainable and innovative mining.
It emphasized that cooperation should encompass not only extraction, but also processing and added value, always in harmony with communities and the environment.
The complementarity between Peru, with its abundant mineral resources, and China, with its high energy demand and vast market, was emphasized as well.
Moreover, he underscored China's role as the main destination for Peruvian mining exports, which account for 87.7% of the total.
In turn, the Chinese delegation expressed its willingness to continue supporting the mining sector's growth in Peru, with particular interest in expanding cooperation in research, human capital development, and cultural exchange strengthening.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Chinese Embassy, the China Metallurgical Mining Association, the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, as well as the companies China Minmetals Corporation, Shougang Group, and the Aluminum Corporation of China.
