World Bank: Social programs in Peru are successful, sustainable

11:47 | Lima, Aug. 31.

The World Bank has affirmed Peru is a role model in the region concerning macroeconomic management, solid fiscal policy, low risk for investment, as well as for the continuity and efficiency of social programs, which have helped reduce poverty levels in the country.

In this sense, World Bank Country Director for Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador and Peru Alberto Rodriguez indicated one of the Inca country's greatest achievements —apart from fiscal responsibility and the independence of the Central Reserve Bank (BCR)— are the successful and sustainable social programs

In this sense, he pointed out that since he arrived in Peru —in 2014— governments have passed, but social programs —such as Cuna Mas, Qali Warma, Pension 65, Juntos, and Beca 18— have remained the same and maintained their positive impact, as they are reaching out to the most vulnerable sectors of the country

Furthermore, Rodriguez underlined that families, whose income decrease, are identified and enter the social registry, so they can leave poverty behind

The World Bank representative went on to add productive programs, which help families create small sustainable enterprises, help them —in the medium term— to leave poverty behind, especially in the areas affected by the economic deceleration.

Concerning Peru's economic growth for the upcoming years, the officer said the World Bank has a moderate and stable growth forecast, which —taking into account the current international context— means a good growth
